total length of the 4 rulers : 4m

For a 1m high gnomon
The shadow is cast on the paper ruler
You measure the length of the shadow
You directly read the value of the angle of the sun

Ruler#1(0cm-100cm)

You just need this ruler for a measurement on:

summer solstice (0° < latitude < 69°)
equinox (0° < latitude < 45°30’)
winter solstice (0° < latitude < 22°)

Ruler#2(100cm-200cm)

You need these 2 rulers (#1 & #2) for a measurement on:

summer solstice (69° < latitude < 87°)
equinox (45°30’ < latitude < 63°30’)
winter solstice (22° < latitude < 40°)

Ruler#3(200cm-300cm)

You need these 3 rulers (#1 & #2 &#3 ) for a measurement on:
